International Long Distance Dialing

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where can I find more information about AT&T World Connect® pricing and the 200+ countries I can call?
A. Information about international features is available by visiting here.

Q. Is there a charge to have the international long distance dialing service added to my account?
A
. No. There is no charge to have standard rate international long distance dialing activated on a mobile. Credit and payment history and the length of service determine eligibility for this service. While dialing internationally, customer will be responsible for all charges incurred while making or receiving calls. Monthly recurring charges are associated with the AT&T World Connect feature and other discount packages.

Q. How do I make an international call or send a text, picture or video message?
A
. It’s easy. Enter “+” (or 011) followed by the country code and local number you wish to dial.
Exceptions:

  • When calling from the U.S. to a mobile number in Mexico you must dial a “1” after the Mexico country code of “52” and before the 10-digit number.

  • When calling from the U.S. to a mobile number in Thailand you must dial an “8” after the Thailand country code of “66” and before the 10-digit number.

  • When calling from the US to a mobile number in Costa Rica you must dial an "8" after the Costa Rica country code of "506" and before the 10-digit mobile number.

  • When calling from the US to a landline number in Costa Rica you must dial a "2" after the Costa Rica country code of "506" and before the 10-digit landline number.

Certain countries such as Canada, Jamaica and many other Caribbean locations can be dialed without having an international dialing feature on your account. To reach these locations, simply dial “1” followed by the area code and local number. Per minute rates will apply.

Q: What is a mobile surcharge?
A
: Mobile termination charges are quite common as many countries use a “calling party pays” framework. Some international carriers charge AT&T higher prices to terminate calls on wireless devices and specialized services (e.g. Premium Rates Services,) versus wireline phones. In order to recover these additional fees, AT&T shall add a mobile termination charge to these types of calls. The customer will see only one per-minute price on their bill for a call where this termination charge applies. This single per-minute price is a combination of our international dialing rate and the mobile termination charge. Click here for a list of mobile dialed numbers.

Q: How much does AT&T charge on calls to Mexico?
A
: With the mobile termination charges, customers who subscribe to AT&T World Connect are charged $0.09 per minute on calls to landline numbers in Mexico, and $0.25 per minute to wireless numbers in Mexico. The standard rate on calls to Mexico is $0.49 per minute on calls to landline numbers and $0.65 on calls to wireless numbers in Mexico. If you recently added the promotional feature AT&T World Connect Mexico, then your rates to Mexico are $0.05 per minute on calls to landline numbers in Mexico, and $0.21 per minute to wireless numbers in Mexico; all other rates are the same as AT&T World Connect.

Q: Will the mobile surcharge also apply to calls made to a U.S. customer’s phone while roaming in Mexico?
A
: No. This surcharge only applies on calls to Mexican mobile phones, not U.S. cell phones roaming in Mexico.

Q: Do the surcharges also apply to data transmissions, i.e., text, picture or video messages to Mexico wireless numbers?
A
: No

Q: Do we have reduced international long distance rates for customers calling American Samoa?
