Health & Safety Information

Information to help you make smart choices.

You may have read or heard statements raising questions about whether there could be health effects associated with using wireless phones. At AT&T, we believe you should be informed. We therefore offer the following information and references for additional information.

Like certain other devices that transmit radio signals, wireless phones emit low levels of radio frequency (RF) energy while operating. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has established RF emissions standards for wireless phones. Each phone that AT&T sells must comply with these FCC safety standards.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also has a significant role concerning the safety of wireless phones.

In May 2002, the FDA and FCC established a joint Web site, "Cell Phone Facts," to provide consumer information regarding cellular phones and radio frequency energy. The joint Web site may be accessed at http://www.fda.gov/cellphones. This Web site provides the FDA’s and FCC’s answers to questions such as: "Do wireless phones pose a health hazard?" And "What steps can I take to reduce my exposure to radio frequency energy from my wireless phone?"

Some organizations and individuals have asserted that RF emitted by wireless phones causes significant risks to health. Some of their views are available in the following sources:

AT&T disagrees with views expressed in the last three sources above, but we believe that you, our customers, have a right to know about them.

AT&T believes that the scientific data do not demonstrate that RF fields emitted from wireless phones cause adverse health effects. AT&T also believes that this issue should continue to be addressed by public health specialists and expert scientists.
