Community Connections

AT&T strongly believes in supporting and giving back to the communities in which we live and work. The following are organizations with which we partner, and initiatives we support, to demonstrate this commitment:

Wireless AMBER Alerts

amber alert logoThanks to a unified project between the Cellular Technology and Internet Association, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and other wireless carriers, AT&T is giving its customers the opportunity to assist law enforcement in the search for and safe return of abducted children via the Wireless AMBER Alerts™ initiative.

Customers capable of receiving text messages can opt-in to receive geographically specified alerts for up to five zip codes. For example, if you enter an Atlanta zip code, you will receive alerts for the entire Atlanta metropolitan area.

In the case of an AMBER Alert, the customer will receive a text message with pertinent details about the abducted child and contact information for reporting a sighting. There is no cost to the customer to sign up to receive AMBER Alerts. Customers will not be charged for actual AMBER Alert messages they receive. However, normal airtime charges will apply if the customer places a call in response to an AMBER Alert message.

More than 200 children have been recovered since the AMBER Alert program began in 1996. If you want to help increase this number, opt-in to participate in the wireless AMBER Alerts initiative. Additional information about the Wireless AMBER Alert Initiative is available in this list of Frequently Asked Questions.

Note: Other wireless carriers participating in the Wireless Amber Alerts Initiative include ALLTEL Mobile, Dobson Communications, First Cellular of Southern Illinois, Nextel Communications, RCC/Unicel, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless and Western Wireless. Only customers of participating carriers can opt-in to participate in the program.

Junior Achievement

junior achievement logoJunior Achievement offers free enterprise and economic education to school children from elementary through high school. The organization reaches out to 4 million students each year, giving them an inside look at the business world.

AT&T supports Junior Achievement by hosting a job shadowing event, during which students and employees are paired together to discuss educational and future career opportunities, among other things.

AT&T has also teamed with Junior Achievement to allow our employees to volunteer as teachers in a classroom environment. The students learn about personal economics, how the free enterprise system works, and the importance of staying in school.
